FUNCTIONS AND OBJECTIVES OF THE DEPARTMENT OF PATHOLOGY

Functions

1.      Diagnostic Services:

Provide accurate and timely diagnosis of diseases through histopathology, cytopathology, hematology, and clinical pathology services.

2.      Medical Education and Training:

Train undergraduate and postgraduate medical students in the principles of disease mechanisms, laboratory diagnosis, and clinicopathological correlation.

3.      Research and Academic Contributions:

Promote research in pathology, cancer studies, and laboratory medicine to contribute to scientific knowledge and improve patient care.

4.      Quality Control and Assurance:

Ensure accuracy and reliability in laboratory testing through internal and external quality control programs.

5.      Interdepartmental Support:

Assist clinicians by offering expert opinions, multidisciplinary case discussions, and second opinions to guide patient management.

Objectives

1. To impart comprehensive knowledge of disease processes, morphology, and laboratory diagnosis to students and trainees.

2. To provide precise and evidence-based diagnostic services for patient care.

3. To encourage critical thinking, diagnostic skills, and academic excellence among students.

4. To promote ethical practices and quality standards in laboratory medicine.

5.To foster research initiatives in cancer pathology, cytology, hematology, and other relevant fields.

6.To support public health initiatives by providing data for epidemiological studies and cancer registries.

7. Provide health education about sickle cell disease, blood donation by holding camps, through lectures in various teaching & non teaching institutes and on All India Radio. Celebration of important days regarding blood donation by holding ralies, street plays, competitions like rangoli, drawing, essay competition in various colleges.
