Dr. Shankarrao Chavan Government Medical College (Dr. SCGMC) & Hospital - Vishnupuri, situated in Nanded city of Maharashtra. It was established in 1988. The College shifted to the Vishnupuri, Nanded area in March 2015 located on the Nanded-Latur State Highway.

Initially, started in 1988, in the Vazirabad area of Nanded attached to Shri Guru Gobind Singhji Memorial Civil Hospital. The hospital has grown into a much bigger hospital in an area of 115 acres campus after its shift to the Vishnupuri, Nanded area in the outskirts of the city offering a huge scope for expansion in future in all aspects of medical education, research & further development in all technical specialities.

The hospital is a 1080+ bedded tertiary-level hospital & teaching institution with an excellent facility of modern equipment. It has huge in flow of patients not only from the city itself, but also a large population coming from the surrounding urban and rural areas including neighboring districts of Parbhani, Hingoli and Yavatmal as well as the border districts of Telangana and Karnataka state.

Hospital is well equipped with 24 hours services of diagnostic radiology, updated pathology & microbiology laboratory, ART centre. It also has Operation Theatres in the OT Complex consisting of modern laminar OTs and centralized Air-conditioning. It also has AC classrooms and a well equipped library with air-conditioners having a huge availability of over 22000+ books to the students.

With hi-tech features in every profession being the need of the hour, the Govt. Medical College is fully computerized as regards to patient data, student data, and University data management.

The Main College Administrative Building is of 3 Floors with a full built-up area with Dean, Deputy Dean, OSD, AO Chambers separately in the Administrative Block. A well established Central Library, four Lecture Halls each having 200 seating capacity with LCD Projector, Interactive Screens and AV aids, one Auditorium with 500 Seating capacity and one Examination Hall with 300 seating capacity. The Administrative Building Canteen is fully operational, offering a variety of nutritious meals and snacks for all UG, PG students, faculty, and staff.

Each department features state-of-the-art infrastructure, including fully equipped student laboratories, specialized departmental museums, interactive demonstration rooms, and dedicated libraries. Every year 150 MBBS seats admission are done through Common Entrance Test (UG NEET). 15% seats are filled by Medical Council Committee (MCC), New Delhi through All India Counselling, One seat is filled by Central Government of India and 84% seats are filled through Maharashtra State Common Entrance counselling.  The performance of students in the University Examination is very good. Highly dedicated faculty, mentor for ICMR STS scholarship for research to the undergraduate students and inculcate research culture to the undergraduate students so as to develop skillful future doctors and meet IMG goals as per NMC guidelines.  Lot of encouragement is given to extracurricular activities like sports, cultural activities and college day celebration etc.

The institute is officially recognized for an annual intake of 111 Postgraduate (PG) seats across all academic and clinical subjects, distributed equally between 50% All India Quota (MCC Counseling) and 50% State Quota (Maharashtra State Counseling).
