INTRODUCTION

The department of General Surgery at Dr Shankararo Chavan Government Medical College and Hospital, Nanded was established in year 1988. Post-graduation in general surgery was started in 1998 marking the beginning of surgical education and training in the institution.

The department is currently led by Dr A. S. Degaonkar, Professor & HOD with a team of skilled and professional surgeons. The department provides comprehensive diagnostic, therapeutic and surgical services. The department started with only 2 post-graduate residents per year, over years it has expanded significantly and currently functional with 3 working units, 9 post-graduate residents annually.

The department has well equipped operating rooms with modern surgical equipment's and infrastructure. 04 General Surgery wards, 01 Burns Care unit and 01 SICU (Surgical ICU 20 beds) well equipped with facilities for efficient care of patients.

In addition to conventional surgeries, the department also has facilities for Laparoscopic Surgeries and Endoscopic procedures such as Gastrointestinal endoscopies and endoscopic uro-surgical procedures enabling comprehensive management of patients.

1.      To establish among the leading institutes of General surgery.

2.      To start super-specialities like Surgical gastroenterology, Neurosurgery, Urology, Surgical Oncology and other advanced surgical disciplines at Dr SCGMC Nanded in near future.

To implement recent advanced technologies like endoscopic surgeries and robotic surgeries in near future.
